From her time as a competitive eventer to her commitment to supporting charitable causes, Zara Tindall has made it clear that she is more than just another member of The Firm. The royal equestrian’s down-to-earth personality and impressive athletic prowess have captured the hearts and minds of fans around the world, inspiring many to follow in her footsteps.
Zara began her eventing career in 2003 with a second-place finish at the Burghley Horse Trials, riding a gelding called Toy Town. The pair would go on to win several championships together, including two European titles and the team silver medal at the London Olympics. She was also crowned the 2006 FEI Eventing World Champion, earning her the honor of being named an MBE in the 2007 New Year Honours for her accomplishments.
But even though Zara was able to find such success in the sport, her career was not without its struggles. The 38-year-old was unable to compete at the 2004 Olympics after her horse suffered an injury. And while she was hoping to make a comeback at the 2008 Games, a traumatic fall on her mare ended her Olympic dream for good.
Following such a tragic incident, Zara turned her focus to raising her family and pursuing philanthropic work. However, in recent years, she has slowly begun to return to the sport she loves. And in her latest appearance, Zara showcased that she is ready to take the reins once again. The eldest granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth was spotted competing in the Osberton International Horse Trials at Worksop, England on Thursday. Riding a gelding named Classicals Euro Star, Zara was all smiles as she and her horse took to the course.
The royal was accompanied by her husband, Mike Tindall. The pair shared a sweet snap on Instagram, showing them standing side-by-side with their horses and holding hands. The picture was captioned, “Competing with my love at @OsbertonInternational this week.”
As for the event itself, Zara and her horse finished sixth in the advanced dressage test. Then they came in seventh in the cross-country and eighth in the show jumping.
In her caption, Zara praised her horse for the great performance and noted that it was his first time competing at five-star level. She went on to say that he is a very special horse and she is very proud of him.
Zara has been a regular competitor at the Badminton Horse Trials and has won several times at the Chatsworth Horse Trials as well. In May, she won the advanced class on her horse, Class Affair, at the Maryland five-star eventing competition.
In addition to being an accomplished equestrian, Zara has supported numerous charitable causes over the years and has even hosted a fundraiser for her beloved charity, PDSA. She is also a strong supporter of the British Armed Forces, having attended several military parades and events over the years. The royal has proven that she is just as much of a thrill seeker as her mother and sister, despite being a member of The Firm.
